Placement, mounting and installation along the South Coast, for private collections and the designers who build them.
The houses here are built out of the difficult materials: lime plaster, adobe, stone, heavy timber, and long stretches of glass facing the ocean. None of them take a fixing the way drywall does, and none of them forgive a second attempt. Knowing what is behind the finish before anything is drilled is most of the work.
Light and salt air decide the rest. Where the afternoon sun crosses a wall determines what can sit under glass, and a piece near an open terrace lives in a different climate from one in an interior hall. Placement is settled in the room, at full size, with those things accounted for — and anything heavy goes onto a cleat, seismically, as a matter of course.
