Bay Area houses give us the full range of difficult substrates — original plaster in Pacific Heights, board-formed concrete on the Peninsula, and stone in bathrooms everywhere — and the seismic question that comes with all of it.
Anything over forty pounds goes on a cleat. Anything that would be dangerous if it moved gets security hardware. We do not need to be asked.
